A proctored location is an approved establishment where tests and exams are performed in front of a professor, teacher, or administrator. This ensures that cheating is not taking place, and that all test materials are not handled by the student alone. This measure also ensures the credibility of the class being taken, as well as the college or university. Be aware that many of these locations charge for proctoring exams and it may or may not be covered by financial aid, so be prepared for this expense.

Doing accurate research about which college is right for each student is just as important with distance learning programs as it is for face-to-face enrollment. If no face-to-face classes will be taken, be sure all the required courses for the degree program of choice are offered through the distance learning program. The need to look at many colleges may be necessary depending on the degree program being researched. Some colleges may require face-to-face enrollment for some classes, while others may not.

A good measure to ensure a quality education is to speak to an administrator where all tests will be proctored about what you are doing. If a question about a particular college or university's credibility comes up, nine times out of ten this administrator will be able to advise you accordingly. Even though you will not be attending this particular school where the advice is being obtained, it is still important to establish a trusting relationship with these individuals.
